An Agora for Ideas and Solutions

I'm a huge fan of virtual worlds and have spent much of the last twenty years in them. I was there when they were founded online and I have bounced from VirtualWorld to VirtualWorld (VW) like an addict chasing my next fix. I even spent some time involved in the design and development of one because I was frustrated at their inadequacies. I'm sorry if this offends anyone, but Second Life (SL) is a joke and after five years of saying nothing I have had enough. How can SL become a vehicle for learning? It can't keep up with he competition, and the last time I checked, it's not open source like these are. If you are going to invest. Invest in open source education platforms not proprietary ones. SL looks and feels horrible to anyone that has experienced a professionally built VW; and further more SL is regarded as utter rubbish to anyone who has been in any VW, such as World of Warcraft, EverQuest 2, Lineage2, Eve Online, Shadowbane, Warhammer Online, and the list goes on and on. Anyone who has would laugh the moment they set forth in SL and leave ten seconds later. What is sad is that so much corporate money has been dumped into SL that one has to wonder why it doesn't look and feel at least like Everquest 2? Which, by the way is now considered old technology. I will tell you why it doesn't? Because the SL teams are too busy building corporate environments that they have no time left for rolling out upgrades. The fact is this, SL is only alluring to the noob VW users who are oblivious to what is out there. The reality is, SL has duped CEOs, who experience the first timer VW "WOW!" effect and fall hook line and sinker for it's "potential" for education. They were wooed into investing and building environments that ammount to nothing but pixels. Yes, you will have some early buzz and fanfare about your new structures, but the buzz will die and your expensive investment will stand vacant and void like so many others that have come and gone in SL.

So what is the solution? Well simple. Build the single user education platform for global education that can, in essence plug into VWs unlocking multi user learning. What will this platform look and feel like? A multi-touch interactive TV that autonomously pushes short three minute objective-base learning content tied to fun games that test measurable outcomes. So simple a two year-old will be able to learn on it. Where will the content come from? 70 years of global television that has been sliced apart and meta tagged by a global community. Who will mash the content? Anyone. How will education content be delivered? It will be delivered to any web enabled device. Who is building it? We are and we plan to work with India or China. Why India and China? Because they need a solution that is open source free, accessible and doesn't require reading and typing -- one that can work outside of language barriers. What is the platform called? Its called the eSingularity Platform. Here the great news for open source VWs. It will plug in to them unlocking multiuser functionality. What will the effect eSingularity will have on western education? I think It will be an "eSputnik" like event as we leap frog Asia to edu 3.0 while the west waste time and money building edu 2.0 solutions made obsolete by us. Its coming... will you be ready for it?

As Nelson Mandela put it "Education is the most powerful weapon in the world for change," let us first make the education weapon and make it available to all regardless of their social or economic disposition and then use virtual words to disseminate it further.

i completely agree with the author there should be one commeon eductaion for everyone.I would love to see Interactive Agency thinking in this direction and come up with something innovative idea. One which comes into my mind is a online lecture with 15 users at a time form different part of the world we must try it out on a trial phase if its successful then we can go ahead with the plan.
We need the uniformity in the education system in all parts of the world. We could also create some Contact Center in different part of the world for this purpose. Will wait for the others feedback

An update... we are looking to be a force in building such platform for Asia who has an educational crisis http://bit.ly/3jzE8d. Something to consider, there are over 6000 languages and less than 5% of the world has broadband connectivity how will the global education and the Net change when 20% of the world is connected?
