Speculations on the Future of Higher Education

On April 18, 2008, I gave a presentation at the University of Georgia titled Education 2018, which speculated on the future landscape of higher education as a result of the driving forces of demography, globalization, economic restructuring, and information technology. The presentation (30 minutes with 20 minutes of discussion) is available as a Quicktime movie at http://tinyurl.com/5h3clk (Warning: this is not streaming video; it takes around 15 minutes to load). A streaming video of just the presentation is available at http://gallery.me.com/jameslmorrison2/100194

The presentation was followed by a 15 minute interview on technology enhanced active learning strategies, available as a Quicktime movie at http://tinyurl.com/6k5wlq (Warning: this is not streaming video; it takes around 10 minutes to load). The streaming video is available at http://gallery.me.com/jameslmorrison2/100213

Thank you for your feedback. This issue matters to me a great deal. I can't understand why my son gets only 15 minutes a day on the internet at school at the end of the day as a reward for good behavior. This IS the future. Therese

Hi James,

Have you ever taken a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based platforms, have a bunch of features and free basic service.

Hi Jim,
Thus far I have focused on getting published in a journal focused on PE as there was so little known about wikis and its pedagogical affects in PE but I would like the opportunity to write an article for Innovate. I have research completed on wikis in PETE (physical education teacher education). My current research is on wikis in PEAC (Physical education Activity courses) and research in the Spring will combine NING with wikis/blogs in PEAC courses.
If you have the criteria for writing articles for Innovate, I would love to look into it! Thank you for the suggestion.

Hi, Jim. Thank you for the invitation! I'll be sending you one, too. This SN is a great idea! Very exciting. Adds another dimension to Innovate. The forum is very dynamic. I couldn't stop reading until I reached the end of the thread. The topics and prompts you're providing are setting the gears in motion.

Thanks Jim - will do.

I was trying earlier to play with my "profile" in the system, and had so far failed to get the addition of a profile image to work. But I shall have another go, and think about what to add.

And I assume that I can invite colleagues from Edinburgh to join in too?

Best wishes.

Hamish
