Hi Tadeusz,

With your interest in Distance Learning, I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based platforms, have a bunch of features and free basic service.

Sorry, I dont think I ever responded to you. I've been away on leave and new to this community. But thank you for pointing me the VOA piece -- I forgot that a faculty member at my campus who works for them interviewed me. I don't recall what I actually said or meant by the "sky's the limit for IT in HEd" in reference to the part you are referring to... I think this is more true about social software tools than IT in general where there are many institutional limitations. I think there are a lot more applications for web 2.0 tools in formal/informal learning but there are some limitations too.

Dear Tadeusz,

Would your institution be interested in the following project proposal?

Title: e-Competence Teacher Training European Project (draft)

Action: KA3 Multilateral Project

ICT Multilateral Projects support the development of innovative ICT-based content, services, pedagogies and practices for lifelong learning. They complement ICT enhanced learning activities and projects under different sectorial programmes (Comenius, Grundtvig and Leonardo da Vinci, in this project proposal), by addressing ICT teaching and learning needs across those sectors.

Short description of the project:

The project aims at building a European online teacher training platform where educational institutions could share their materials adopting interoperability guidelines and formats (IMS, SCORM) and create training courses and activities, starting by a multilingual generic e-competence course for teachers that following the European e-competence framework standards could fit the requirements of different countries and would enable effective planning and design of ICT curricula in different knowledge areas, a process to be shared and developed in communities of practice.

Thank you, Tad for checking William Jewell's website. Unfortunately, William Jewell's online program has not progressed as quickly as hoped. I thought the program was promising. I will let you know if the situation changes.

Thanks for calling myattention to the extra `e`.
The special issue of INNOVATE on electornic textbooks will be August 2009 but I am soliciting articles already...I am personally interested in textbooks that can be downloaded onto the little X-O OLPC computer for the billion kids in the world with the least educational opportunity, and its successors created by the use of feedback from users.
